Radio Contest By: Holly
We remember when everything changed that night after school. It all started last year, summer 1960. Carlee had gymnastics so once I finished my soccer game, I came to the gym. Carlee is my best friend. She loves gymnastics and is skinny. She has light brown hair and brown eyes. But, there is something we both know! There is nothing better than teenage heartthrob Brad Winton. We obsessed over him. Brad was, of course, older than us - at least three years. We were only 13, but "He is so dreamy!" we would say. But God knows if he knew if we existed! This week was "Brad Week" on the radio at 4:00 every day of the week. That day was "Contest Day" so Carlee and I RAN as fast as we could. We hit the radio; it turned on to "The Radio Guy." We pulled the phone off the wall. I twirled the spiral cord with my finger because I was nervous. "Alright you Fairview girls!" he said. We got excited! The "Radio Guy" said, "Alright ladies! Two lucky gals will win a date with Brad Winton so START YOUR DIALS!!" We could hear the phone ring on the radio. He finally picked up our phone and with a loud CONGRATULATIONS! we knew it was us. "You two girls have won a date with me," a voice said. Right away, we knew it was Brad Winton so we started screaming. "It's like a dream!" Carlee said. "But it's come true, Carlee! And to think Monday it will be real!" We celebrated with two cherry lollipops on a job well done. That following night, Carlee stayed the night. We had two cokes, but the glass bottles didn't make the recycling bin. We were so excited , we forgot everything. When Monday came, we had a fight. "I'll sit next to Brad in the car!" I shouted. "Maybe I'm sick of you always getting what you want!" said Carlee. We were just a tad bit too tired. After all, we didn't get much sleep. Who could sleep with all the excitement? Carlee and I fought so our moms drove us spearately. That was the most painful Monday. Brad wasn't even that great after all. "Hey!" Carlee said to me at school the next day. "Did you enjoy your Monday?" I asked. "It was painful and dreary. Plus Brad wasn't really all that great," Carlee answered. "Well, let's make a promise," I told her. "From now on, we won't get mad over silly things." "OK" she said. And we walked out friends again.

Dear Holly,
What a great story! I really enjoyed the suspence!! I also think it can remind any girl no matter her age what her first crush felt like--and how much more important it is to have friends:)
Very well done!
Great story, Holly! It was very well done and creative. I enjoyed it.
Hi Holly!
Nice job! I must say that one of my favorite parts is that you made me feel like it was actually 1960! Using the glass coke bottles and the wall telephone added a special touch! My other favorite part is that you showed character. The girls learned a valuable lesson on friendship!
