Guinea Pigs By: Kassidea

I have two guinea pigs, Billy and Bob. My name is Kassidea. This is how I got them. One day, my mom surprised me with a trip to the pet store! I was five, and it sounded exciting. She said we were buying something. Okay, I have to admit, I was going to burst with excitement. When I walked into the store, there were lots of animals, but I only saw two. Two little, lonely, helpless guinea pigs. I ran to look at them. They were both ten dollars. Mom asked, "Do you want those ones?" I nodded my head quickly. She went to the clerk, and my mom paid for them. The clerk put them in a carrier box and handed them to mom. When we got home, I wanted to look at them. Then I opened the cage...they were not moving! I got scared, and finally heard a soft snoring. A couple of weeks passed. As I was feeding them, I realized Billy was fatter. He also started eating more and playing less. I decided to ignore it. A few days later, I woke up and walked downstairs. My mom had something in a washcloth. A baby guinea pig! My mom looked at me and said, "Billy is having babies!" I shrieked with joy. When she was done, Billy was asleep, and the babies were nursing. The next few days were critical. The babies squeeked all night. One morning, many weeks laters, I walked downstairs. My mom looked worried. I got ready for school. I asked, "What's wrong?" and she pointed at the cage....one of the babies was missing! It was time to get on the bus. I got on my coat and my mom said "Bye." I waved and left. There was something in my pocket, and I looked in, and there was a guinea pig! My mom saw this and grabbed it, laughing nervously. When I got home from school, my mom said we had to give away the guinea pigs. They were getting too noisy, and they kept on getting out. I nodded my head and tried to act calm, but I could feel the tears trying to sneak out. When we gave them away, I was trying to be strong. I hoped that they would have good homes.
